What is Industrial Mathematics?

Industrial Math is the application of Mathematics to real problems coming directly from business, industry, or government. The methods used can include modeling, optimization, data analysis, forecasting, and cost/risk analysis.

In this course, students will work together in groups to solve problems from industry. For more information, take a look at the Course Info.

This is not an ordinary course:

Students will solve actual real-world problems provided by industrial partners external to the university (problems from business, industry, and government).

The course is heavily geared toward the projects themselves, and each group of 3-4 students will receive their own semester-long project.

PIC Math

This course is part of the PIC Math program ("Preparation for Industrial Careers in Mathematics").

PIC Math is a program of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Support for the program is provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF grant DMS-1345499).
