Week 1: Jan. 10, 12 |
Introduction: overview of industry client and project topic. |
Begin researching data set and goals of client. |
Week 2: Jan. 17, 19 |
Background research on data set and anomaly detection literature. |
You will present in groups on your initial findings. |
Week 3: Jan. 24, 26 |
Meet the industry liason and select teams and projects. |
Meeting with client is an opportunity to clarify the objectives/constraints of the project. |
Week 4: Jan 31, Feb. 2 |
Precise formulation of problem statements. |
Literature survey continues.
|
Weeks 5-7: Feb. 7-23 |
Preliminary work. |
Avoid getting hung up on one single step of the problem.
Look for compromises and heuristics that will allow you to move forward
toward a workable preliminary algorithm.
(Once you have preliminary results, you can later return to steps you'd like to improve.)
|
Week 8: Feb. 28, March 2 |
Detailed research proposal for final stage of research. |
You should now have preliminary results including
a simple baseline produced by the performance of a rudimentary algorithm.
|
Week 9-12: March 14 - April 6 |
Primary work. |
Bi-weekly progress reports.
Implement algorithms, and carry out proposed experiments for testing performance.
|
Week 13: April 11, 13 |
First draft of final report and (in class) presentation with slides. |
|
|
Week 14: April 18, 20 |
Second draft of final report and final presentation (to client). |
|
|
May 1 |
Final written report due. |
You may consider submission to the FAU journal of undergraduate research. |
